Premium American hickory is very strong.Equal to construction-grade aluminum. It has been trusted for generations in tools that must absorb shock — from axe handles to ladder rungs.
Lightweight at 1 lb 4 oz for all-day comfort, and less fatigue.
One piece of solid hickory will not pull apart in mid-stream.
Grip is a custom made specially-textured, tacky material that provides your fingers a surface to cling to wet or dry.
Lanyard is a special 1/4" diameter controlled-stretch cord that keeps the floating staff within easy reach, yet out of the way of your legs and net.
Fastener is of heavy-duty plastic. Its design is simple, so with a single click it's fastened securely to your wading belt or D-ring, and off you go!Plus, hickory is naturally quiet, affording more effective fish stalking, and will not vibrate and sing like a violin in rushing water, as do metal and carbon fiber.
Tip is of a unique design: the hickory shaft is sleeved for extra durability in tough plastic that allows the wood to emerge at the end so it can silently contact rocks. (For evidence of tip durability, see the photo of Ron Hart's personal staff with over 200 days of hard use and no maintenance).
Finish is a two coat, durable oil base stain and polyurethane, to bring out the warm tones of the hickory and proven in the field to protect the wood as long as anything can. Maintenance is easy: Hand sand first, then any oil base polyurethane can be applied liberally over the dry wood, then wiped with a clean cotton cloth.
